ImagiPLAY Veggie Cutting Set - Review

I love to cook. My dream is for my kitchen time to be a relaxing way for me to switch gears from the crazy pace of my daytime schedule to the slower pace of my evenings. Luke is home after all so I have another adult in the house, which means another pair of hands.

Maddy likes to cook with me and I love the idea of her growing up to love cooking just as much as her mommy but sometimes there isn't much for her to do based on what the meal for the night is so there are times when she just ends up making the process of cooking dinner slightly difficult. Because of this I love imaginative toys that allow Madeline to hang out in the kitchen with me while simultaneously keeping her busy and entertained.

One of Maddy's new toys, ImagiPLAY's Veggie Cutting Set, has made a big difference to our cooking time as well as Maddy's imaginative play in her play kitchen. She loves cutting the different vegetables and "preparing" meals.

General Info:

The ImagiPLAY Veggie Cutting Set includes a cutting board, knife, tomato, carrot, zucchini, mushroom and bell pepper. All pieces are made of rubberwood. Each vegetable is made up of multiple pieces attached together by velcro. The set retails for $24.99 and is made up of 16 pieces total.

Our Thoughts:

Maddy was instantly excited about this toy. After opening the package she spent the night sitting on the kitchen floor cutting, "cooking" and making salads for Luke and I while I made dinner. She loves that she gets to cut her own vegetables, since she knows that mommy's knives are off limits to her. I love that she is excited about vegetables.

the set comes with a cute little crate and we have turned that into our storage spot for all the vegetables when Maddy is not playing with her set. The veggies have made a nice addition to her other play food. The pieces all seem sturdy and are a great size for toddler hands to manipulate.

I love toys that are educational, especially when they are fun and kids don't realized how much they are learning while playing with it. I am not an expert but I did study elementary education in college and I instantly saw the learning side to this toy. Cutting the vegetables and then putting them back together requires hand eye coordination and motor skill development so this is great for her age. The toys are brightly colored and look much like their real life counterparts. While playing with our veggies we have had the chance to count pieces, talk about colors, talk about same and different, and vegetables in general.

If the pieces are kept together it may be easy to loose a vegetable piece or two because they can get scattered. Having the crate as our designated storage spot has helped us keep everything together and so far we haven't had to send out search parties looking for a missing piece of carrot or a mushroom cap.

$24.99 may be a bit pricier than the sets of plastic play food you can find in different big box stores for less than $15.00 but those plastic play things are not interactive like the ImagiPLAY Veggie Cutting Set and mostly likely those plastic sets are filled with things like donuts, french fries, cookies and ice cream and maybe a few fruits and veggies. We strive to feed Madeline healthy foods as much as possible and I would rather have her playing with the foods that we work so hard to have her eat in real life instead of the foods that we work hard to avoid, let alone all of the toxins that maybe in the plastic toys themselves. So in my opinion ImagiPLAY's toys are very affordably priced based on their quality and what you get.

Our Final Say:

I really love this toy, for several reasons beyond it's educational and fun value. I love that ImagiPLAY is a local Colorado company. The fact that this toy is made of earth friendly rubberwood only helps me to love it even more. I can't help but love that this toy doesn't beep or ding or light up, it is a simple wooden toy set that requires a child to actively interact with the toy instead of passively watching the toys move, talk and act on its own. This toy set may be for you and your child if you like well made, sturdy and versatile toys that encourage your child to learn and use their imagination.

The ImgiPLAY Veggie Cutting Set gets the Evolving Mommy, Daddy and Daughter seals of approval.
